Rhyolite is a fine-grained volcanic rock that is the lava form of granite, usually displaying flow-banding in white, grey, pink and red colors.

This rhyolite, also called "Wonderstone"  was formed in abundance throughout the southwest of the United States, these flat pieces in particular come from Utah.

The name rhyolite is derived from the Greek words "rhyax" meaning "stream" (of lava) and "lithos" meaning "stone."

Metaphysically speaking, rhyolite is known as a "stone of resolution," it helps you be in the present, let go of the past, is great for meditation and self-realization.  It is said to benefit the body's immune system, veins, skin issues, and improve absorption of vitamin B complexes.

Rose quartz is opaque to translucent quartz, in very pale pink to beautiful deep, rose-red colors and has a hardness of 7.  Other minerals often found with rose quartz are black tourmaline and mica.

This "Premium" grade rose quartz, a deep pink to a red rose color, comes from an area near Custer, South Dakota, where the highest quality of American material is found, and is great rough for cabbing.

The color of rose quartz is still a mystery. Some say it's due to various impurities such as titanium, manganese and even colloidal gold.  However, recent studies have discovered the color of massive rose quartz is actually due to microscopic mineral fibers.   X-ray diffraction tests on these fibers show patterns similar to the mineral dumortierite but slightly different, suggesting a new and unknown fibrous mineral causing the color in massive rose quartz.

Metaphysically speaking, rose quartz is "the stone of gentle love," and is one of the most powerful stones to have around.  Placing a good-sized chunk of rose quartz in every room of your home can fill the whole place with compassion, understanding and loving energies.  It is said to help calm the mind, release worries, fears and past emotional traumas, and strengthens the heart.
