This handmade antique dry sluice box was built sometime in the 1950's, and is somewhat portable with its removable legs.

  • It measures approximately 41" long (from top corner to wheel)
  • 22" wide (from crank handle to wheel)
  • 22" tall (from top of grizzly to bottom of wheel)
  • with legs attached, about 36" tall
  • and weighs 42 pounds.

Dry sluicing for gold is not only the fastest method for sifting gold from dirt and sand, it is also the most economical, as a dry sluice box can be easily built.  A dry sluice box separates gold from gravel in areas where water is scarce. First introduced in the early 1920s, the dry sluicing method for gold prospecting is popular in desert regions.  Also called a "drywasher," "jig," "shaker," or "dry blower," they work by pulsating up and down action of the bellows.  The canvas for the bellows is good shape with the exception of an area up front.  The grizzly is 1/4" square wire mesh.

So, don't get wet, go dry sluicing.
